GL Golf Has A Golfer

It took almost ten years, but GL Golf has an actual golfer model! We’re tweaking all of the visuals now, but it’s essentially done for the 2.35 update coming next week for the Mac, and later this month for the iPhone.

  1. Nice work! The golfer adds an added touch of reality. The golfer does get in the way when lining up some putts, but you can put a wedge in his hand, line up the putt, and then switch back to the putter. All in all I’ll give it 4-1/2 stars. Good work guys.

  2. Once again the users who purchase the game from the Mac App Store miss out on the updated version. Not happy, how about some equality here?

  3. Frankly, the idea of adding an actual golfer is a great idea…unfortunately it missed the mark. There appears to be no way to view/not view and that is a programming shortcoming. I’ve found that the golfer (usually his head), many times, is in the line of site for the hole. If there is a way to not view the golfer and I simply missed it, I apologize. Otherwise, I believe an update is in order.

    Thanks for listening.

    1. Something will be done for putting in the next version. For now I recommend aiming with the driver model, then switching to the putter right before hitting. Sorry about the inconvenience until then,

  4. Just go back to the old version, throw the golfer away, he does nothing for the game. He doesn’t need improvement, he needs to be removed. Adding the golfer misses the whole point, I don’t want to watch the golfer, I want to be the golfer. Adding the figure completely destroys that prespective. I know that somebody has put a lot of work into this but it is misguided.

  5. Well Jake, response is overwhelming negative concening the golfer, this is a “new coke” moment for your game, what do you do? Those of us who love your game have no way to revert back to the version we play and love. The current model of software distribution has removed that ability from consumer control. So all that we can do is ask that the original game, the one we paid for, and rated highly, is returned.

    1. It is unfortunate that with the Mac App Store you can’t easily go back to the old version without manually backing up every version before updating. While there have been negative comments I have received several positive comments on the golfer. Please hang on until the next update, where I will add some sort of option to disable the golfer, then everyone will be happy

  6. I agree!!! This was my favorite game until the latest changes were made. The direction and club selection is overly sensitive and almost unusable. I cannot make the fine adjustments necessary to line up my shots. In it’s current condition this game “SUCKS!!!”

  7. Not only does the golfer get in the way, but the direction control is unusable. Just a tiny move makes the hole rotate 45 degrees. It is impossible to play now on my iphone. Is there a way to decrease the sensitivity so it is usable? If not I want the old version back.

    1. Are you guys using the new iOS 5.0 from Apple, or some other version? I cannot recreate these bugs in 5.0, everything is smooth like usual on my three test devices. If I can pinpoint the cause I can try to fix it or at least let everyone know what is causing the problem.

  8. Just an update, the issue with controls not working on 2nd and 3rd generation has finally been resolved. I’m submitting version 2.352 today and going to try to get Apple to expedite the review.

  9. No matter what club you hit on the second shot on Augusta hole #1, you will not clear the sand trap. Realistic, LOL?

    1. You may want to experiment with the 315/330 yard drive instead of a 1W/2W for this courses, or possibly using your power boost right away. GL Golf is now 17 years old so it definitely is not the most realistic anymore, we’re much more proud of the physics in Nova Golf and Birdie Golf
