Post The Plot and How We'll Show It
Here's my idea for an intro. Someone with 3D modeling/rendering software should make a movie out of it, possibly in a slideshow(Gameboy intro) style. Maybe this little excerpt could be the subtitles and no sound would be needed except for explosions, et cetera. All names in this text can and probably should be changed.

You'll probably notice the resemblance to the All Your Base phenomenon (allyourbase.net). I thought this would be a funny idea.

2060 AD/CE
Deep Space
An explosion rocks a United Earth (good govt) battlecruiser
Captain: What happened?!!!
Mechanic: There was an explosion on the third deck. I suspect that Underground spies planted a bomb there.
Operator: Captain, we're getting a signal!
Captain: Well don't just stand there, show it to me!
Operator: Activating main screen.
A cloaked figure appears on the ship's computer screen.
Captain: Oh no! It's Dogs!
Dogs: Good day to you, gentlemen.
Dogs: All United Earth bases now belong to the Underground.
Dogs: United Earth will soon be crushed beneath our feet.
Captain: What did you say? How is that possible? The whole fleet is docked at Earth...
Dogs: There is no way you can survive. I'll give you five minutes. Use them wisely. After five minutes...
An evil chuckle echoes through the ship
Captain: Get all the Gladiators out of the docking bays.
Captain: The pilots know what they're doing.
Captain: Now get going!
Operator: Captain, almost every Gladiator just blew up! We've only got one left!
Captain: What's its status?
Operator: It just left the docking bay!
Captain: Tell it to return!
Operator: I can't! All communications have been jammed!
Captain: There's nothing we can do now...

To show the plot developing, we could have a short movie in between each level.

If you want quality movies, they're gonna be friggin big. If you're willing to settle for crap then you won't have a problem.

They don't necessarily have to be big. If we had a slideshow-type setup, they wouldn't need to be big. We could have a folder full of images to show for each level. The program itself could show the images in sequence.

Remember, it's just a suggestion.

Slideshow would be better. You could save the images at 1/2 size (1/4 area) and scale them up to fill the screen and still look nice.

I hate that method, but I guess it would work.

If there is one thing that I hate more than anything, it's bad cutscenes. They feel like a waste of time.
Halo had fairly good cutscenes. JKII had horrible cut scenes. Metroid Prime's cutscenes were really annoying because they stopped in the middle of the gameplay to show you something. I think that in-game scripted cutscenes that don't halt the gameplay are the best.
